A whole world of filming locations in New Zealand
As no New Zealand resident will have unable to miss, the past few years has seen a host of international filming projects of the largest scale filmed in New Zealand. A major draw card for these big productions is not just the spectacular locations New Zealand is famous for, but also the simple variety of scenery. New Zealand Network has also recently hosted a variety of drama productions set elsewhere in the world but filmed in New Zealand.
In 2005, scenes from NHK's 'Ice wall k2!' set in Pakistan were filmed in South Island.
In 2006 Fuji TV's 'The promise' scenes set in Russia were filmed in Otago.
The documentary spoof 'How to catch the Skyfish' made the greatest use of New Zealand's varied scenery by setting four different countries, Samoa, Mexico, Germany and America, all within a short drive from central Auckland.
Southern hemisphere seasonality, competitive exchange rates, an enormous variety of scenery in close proximity to major cities and an established film industry infrastructure, New Zealand is looking forward to hosting many more of every kind of drama production.
